When First Touch Games (FTG) unveiled their latest batch of classic players in Dream League Soccer (DLS), fans eagerly anticipated a roster that would diversify the Squad & requests for new players. However, the announcement of Gianfranco Zola-1997 (CF), Dennis Bergkamp-2004 (SS), Hernán Crespo-1998 (CF), and Paul Gascoigne-1996 (AM) as the new legends left many players underwhelmed and sparked widespread discussion within the DLS community.

The players were expecting much more from the developers as the latest announcement (about New Cards) by FTG increased the excitement off the charts.
Expectations vs. Reality
The DLS community has long advocated for the inclusion of defensive legends to balance the game’s offensive roster. With existing legends occupying Forward like Suker, Bergkamp(1998), Batistuta, etc. Instead, FTG added three more forwards—Zola (CF), Crespo (CF), and Bergkamp (SS)—further saturating the attacking lineup.
The lack of defensive legends not only limits strategic diversity but also diminishes the squad depth that classic players bring to the game.
Bergkamp’s Underwhelming Stats
A backlash revolves around the newly introduced Dennis Bergkamp (2004) card. Despite the anticipation surrounding new players’ inclusion, players were disappointed to discover that the new card is only rated 83 OVR. Considering the constant grinding required to sign classic players—accumulating 250,000 DP, many felt the reward did not justify the grind.
A user commented, “Good idea but executed wrongly, it is kinda lame now.”
Zola’s Height
Gianfranco Zola’s addition also sparked disappointment primarily due to his height of 168 cm. In a game where physicality and aerial attributes are so important, gamers questioned the practicality of investing time & resources into acquiring a striker who might easily get bodied by the defenders.
While Zola’s technical skills and agility are notable, the game’s mechanics often favour the player’s physical strength and physique, leading to lots of debate.
Mumba Moses Snr commented on Facebook, “Look at the Height of the striker.”
Conclusion
The introduction of Zola, Bergkamp, Crespo, and Gascoigne as classic players in Dream League Soccer was met with varied reactions, highlighting the importance of thoughtful and balanced content updates. Well, it will be exciting to see how well the new update about DLS Spotlight goes, as the developers plan to introduce special player cards with player-specific versions like Messi-2012, Lamine Yamaal-2025, etc.
